Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) and Head Coach
Lori Hussong headline the Broncs' All-Northeast Conference selections, announced Tuesday afternoon. Divorra earned NEC Offensive Player of the Year for the second-straight year, while adding NEC Player of the Year to her list of accolades this year. Hussong was named NEC Coach of the Year. In addition,
Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast), Divorra,
Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) and
Brittany Romanczuk (Washington, NJ/Notre Dame) were selected to the All-NEC First Team, while
Sierra Giuliano (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) and
Kaitlyn Flemming (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) earned Second Team honors.
"We are happy and proud to see our players and recognized by the NEC for their outstanding play as each has been a key ingredient to the progress that we made during a very challenging season," said Hussong. "Their commitment and dedication has helped bring back a winner's mentality to our program. Each has helped raise the level of everyone around them and has worked so hard to lead our team to success. All are selfless players who put the team success before individual accomplishments and wear their uniform with Rider pride. Their team first mindset brings the best out of everyone and is contagious."
Divorra has twice been named NEC Player of the Week this season after scoring six goals and adding three assists in six games played. A year after being named NEC Offensive Player of the Year, Divorra gives the Broncs a major award winner for the for the fifth-straight year. Divorra leads the NEC in goals (6), points (15) and game-winning goals (3). A highlight of her season was scoring a hat trick in the first quarter against Merrimack on March 22.
Hussong was named league Coach of the Year for the sixth time in her 21 years, including her fifth in the Northeast Conference (2003, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2021) to go along with one in the MAAC (2013). Hussong's team won a league regular season title for the ninth time. All 21 of her teams have reached the conference tournament and 14 have now reached the league championship game. Her .663 winning percentage (267-136) continues to put her in the Top 10 nationally among active Division I coaches.
"To me the 'Coach of the Year' honor is really a "Coaching Staff of the Year" honor and our team is fortunate to have the very best assistants," said Hussong. "Being able to surround myself with knowledgeable and loyal assistants who truly believe in our players and our program the same way that I do is a luxury that we have here at Rider. Each pour their heart into making our players better as players but, more importantly, as people and our team is lucky to benefit from their passion and love of the game. Their influence and care impact our team in such a positive way and I am grateful and appreciative for all that they give to our program."
Brosious earned All-NEC First Team honors for the second-straight season. She scored twice and added a pair of assists this season. Included in her scoring was the game-winning goal in the season opener against LIU, the Broncs' opponent in Thursday's NEC Championship Game. Her two goals and two assists each rank fifth in the NEC, while her six points rank sixth.
van Ommeren earns All-League honor for the third time in as many years, taking All-NEC First Team honors for the second-straight year. She scored a goal and added an assist this season. Included in her production was a goal in Rider's April 8 win over Wagner and an assist in the Broncs' April 12 win at Bryant to clinch the NEC title.
Romanczuk makes her debut on the All-NEC Team after earning NEC All-Tournament Team honors last season. She was second in the league in points with nine, while her four goals ranked tied for second, behind only Divorra. She also played a pivotal role on a defense that had a league-high five shutouts and allowed just one goal in six games this season.
Giuliano earns her first All-NEC honor, taking Second Team accolades. She tied for the league lead in assists with five, while finishing tied for second with nine points. Her two goals also rank fifth in the league.
Flemming becomes a three-time Second-Team All-League performer. Flemming was a key member of the Broncs' defense, which allowed just one goal in six games and posted five shutouts. She also scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke against Fairfield on April 1, while adding another penalty stroke in an April 8 win over Wagner.
The Broncs play host to LIU in the NEC Championship Game on Thursday at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and NEC Front Row.
