Rider Wrestling Falls at Central Michigan, 24-12

Miraglia wins his season debut bout

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - Bryan Miraglia (Delran, NJ/Delran) was victorious in his season debut, but the Rider University Wrestling team fell at MAC opponent #31 Central Michigan, 24-12, Friday evening in Mount Pleasant, MI. The Chippewas begin their season at 1-0,(1-0 MAC), while the Broncs fall to 1-2 (1-1 MAC).

Miraglia earned the first points of the dual for Rider, picking up a decision in his bout at 149, but Central Michigan would strike back, earning wins in four of the next five bouts to push their lead to 12-3. #33 George Walton (Franklin, NJ/Bound Brook) broke the Chippewas command on the mat with his hard-fought victory at 184 to chip away at the deficit.

But the Chippewas would halt the Bronc offense at 285 as David Szuba (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) was pinned by #11 Matt Stencel at 1:12. Still, Rider would battle back. Tyler Klinsky (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) earned a win over #32 Brock Bergelin at 125, and #31 Richie Koehler took another three points after his decision over Vince Perez at 133. Central Michigan would have the final say in the match, with #22 Quinn Kinner losing to #8 Dresden Simon, 10-8, to seal the Chippewas' victory.

Quotes and Notes
"Bryan Miraglia stepped in for us up a weight and wrestled well. Richie got back to being himself tonight. Tyler also beat a good kid and George found a way to win. We knew we needed a full team effort tonight and just didn't get it at a few weights. We need more discipline and patience in positional wrestling moving forward." – Rider University Wrestling Head Coach John Hangey

- Miraglia earned his first bout of the season in the loss to Central Michigan.
- Rider faced Central Michigan for the first time in Mt. Pleasant, tonight's match became just the fifth meeting between the two teams with Central Michigan leading the all-time series, 4-1.
