Wrestling Opens 2021-22 Season Saturday Night Against Purdue

Broncs face Boilermakers for first time since 2010

What You Need To Know
- The Rider University wrestling team hosts Purdue for the first dual of the season Saturday night on ESPN+.
-The Broncs and the Boilermakers met for the first time in 2008 where Purdue came away with a 24-18 victory. The most recent meeting occurred in 2010, where the Broncs came away with a 25-10 victory. The dual Saturday would be just the third meeting between the two teams and the first in over a decade.
-John Hangey returns for his fifth season as head coach and has accumulated a 37-14 record in his short time as head coach, including a signature win against The University of Minnesota during the 2019-20 season. The Golden Gophers were ranked #6 in the nation at the time.
-During an abbreviated 2020-2021 season, the Broncs went 4-1 overall, and 2-0 in the MAC before heading to MAC Championships and the NCAA Championships.
-Rider finished second in the MAC last year.
-Intermat has named Quinn Kinner (Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway [Ohio State]) and Matt Correnti (Delran, NJ/Holy Cross [Rutgers]) to the All-MAC Second Team.
-Intermat ranks Richie Koelher (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) as #24 in 133 lbs, Jake Silverstein (Hauppauge, NY/Smithtown) as #31 in 157 lbs, and Matt Correnti (Delran, NJ/Holy Cross Academy [Ohio State]) as #26 in 197 lbs.
-Wrestlestat ranks Kinner as #22 in 141 lbs, and Correnti #28 in 197 lbs.
-Wrestlestat also ranks the Broncs as #53 for dual meets
-At the 2020-2021 NCAA Championships, the Broncs finished in 20th place, totaling 22.0 points.
-Rider's starting lineup is projected to have either four or five true freshman, one transfer, and four returners:
