Men's Golf Finishes 14th at UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

Devereux leads Broncs with final round 71 (-1)

HAMPDEN, MA – Austin Devereux (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) shot a one-under 71 in the final round of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse to finish tied for 20th individually as the Rider University men's golf team placed 14th of 16 teams. Devereux finished the tournament seven over (76-76-71=223), a stroke ahead of Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft), who shot a 76 Tuesday. The Broncs had their best round of the tournament Tuesday, shooting 299 (+11).

Zander Gibson (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) finished strong with a two-over 74 in the final round, while Joey Lostombo (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) shot 78. Shawn Blandine (Ringwood, NJ/Don Bosco) rounded out the Broncs' line-up with an 86.  

NOTES
- For the second-straight day, no team broke par for their round. UConn (877, +13) shot a two-day best among all teams with an even-par 288 to pull to within two strokes of team champion Rhode Island (875, +11).
- UConn's Caleb Manuel earned the individual title, with a final-round 67, separating from Iona's Justin Burkhamer (73 Tuesday) after the two golfers were tied atop the leaderboard entering today's round.
- Rider (304-308-299=911, +47, 14th) was one of three MAAC programs competing in the tournament, joining Iona (302-292-295=889, +25, 4th) and Siena (299-296-296=891, +27, 5th).
- Devereux shot four under for the tournament on the Par 5's, two strokes off the best mark by any individual.  
- van der Nat's 39 par's tied for most in the tournament.


UP NEXT
The Broncs return to action Saturday, Oct. 16, when they take part in the two-day Hawk Invitational, hosted by Monmouth at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Lakewood, NJ.
