LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Ben Cohen Field turf was recently refreshed, with the original 10-year old playing surface being replaced with a brand new FieldTurf CoolPlay system. In addition to visual enhancements, with a cranberry border placed around the sidelines, the FieldTurf's CoolPlay system serves as an effective way to combat some of the effects of the heat. Independent results concluded that CoolPlay was over 35ºF cooler than traditional sand/rubber infill systems. With over 500 installations, CoolPlay is the most tested and trusted cooling technology available.
"We are extremely proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Rider University," said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. "We are gratified that the Broncs have decided that FieldTurf is the best choice to deliver the highest quality and safest playing surface for their athletes."
Ben Cohen Field, which opened in September of 2010, is a state-of-the-art turf facility and home to the Rider men's and women's soccer and field hockey teams. Equipped with lights, the field also provides additional and much-needed space for intramural and club sport practices and competitions.
"We are extremely excited to upgrade Ben Cohen Field to the latest FieldTurf technology," said
Brian Keane, Rider Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Operations. "The CoolPlay infill system improves the playability and safety of the field while significantly reducing surface temperatures. Our goal was to provide the highest quality surface for our student-athletes at Ben Cohen Field and FieldTurf helped us accomplish our goal."
Benjamin Cohen '10, who received a bachelor's degree in Communication, is the son of David and Rhonda Cohen, who donated to the turf field in his honor in 2010.
