LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Rider University men's and women's tennis teams both received public recognition from the NCAA for their performance in the most recent Academic Progress Rate, it was announced. To be recognized, a program's APR must rank among the top 10 percent in the nation in its sport.
"Within the Rider Athletic Department, academic and athletic success are equally prioritized," said
Greg Busch, Rider Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Compliance. "It is therefore a source of great pride for us to have two of our teams receive these public recognition awards from the NCAA."
Both the men's and women's tennis teams placed three athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Teams in 2018-19. This is the sixth year in a row that men's tennis has earned public recognition while the women's team returns to prominence for the seventh time overall after earning the honor every year from 2008-09 through 2013-14.
In 2004, the NCAA developed an Academic Progress Rate (APR) metric that examines academic success on a more real-time basis. One point is awarded each term to each scholarship student-athlete who meets academic-eligibility standards and an additional point is awarded if they remain with the institution. A team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible.
