The Rider Department of Athletics proudly celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day annually. NGWSD began in 1987, evolving into an effort to bring attention to the achievements of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation, and the challenges and issues facing females in sports.
This year's celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day,
presented by the Law Office of Mark A. Kriegel, will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025.Â
The women's basketball team will host Saint Peter's at 1 p.m. as part of the day's celebration. Prior to the game, however, there will be a free all-sports clinic with Rider's female student-athletes and coaches as well as the cheer and dance teams for girls ages 5-17 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center (adjacent to Alumni Gym) on campus.
"We get tremendous support for all of our women's sports programs from Rider faculty, staff, and alumni as well as our local community members so this all-sports clinic with our female student-athletes is our way to give back. In past years, we've gotten calls from parents telling us how much a young girl enjoyed learning about a new sport during the clinic," said Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations/SWA,Â
Karin Torchia. "The celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day also allows us to honor our women's teams and their accomplishments both athletically and academically."Â
Check-in and registration for the all-sports clinic will begin at 10:30 a.m. on February 15 in the Student Recreation Center on campus (adjacent to Alumni Gym) and the actual clinic activities will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Pre-registration for the clinic is preferred, but not required, and girls can also just show up on the day of the clinic to participate.  To pre-register for the clinic, please visit gobroncs.com/tickets and click on the box that says "Sports Clinics" and look for "National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2025" on the events calendar or use this linkÂ
