Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Too Much For Niagara, 73-58

Broncs lead wire-to-wire

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]) scored 17 points and Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) added 16 as the Rider University men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 73-58 win over Niagara Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. With the win, the Broncs improve to 14-9 (8-5 MAAC), while the Purple Eagles fall to 7-16 (5-7 MAAC).

The Broncs quickly jumped out in front with the game's first nine points. The lead swelled to as many as 16 points, 30-14, in the first half on a Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) three-pointer and the Broncs took a 40-29 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Scott made all six of his attempts for 14 points, while Marshall was 5-for-5 for 10 points.

Rider came out of the locker room red hot, outscoring Niagara, 25-5, over nearly the first 12 minutes of the second half to build its largest lead, 65-34. Christian Ings (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) punctuated the run, elevating high over the rim on an inbounds alleyoop from Jordan. With the Rider bench emptied, Niagara scored the game's final 14 points to whittle the Rider lead down to its final 15-point margin.

Quotes & Notes
"Good team win, start-to-finish. I thought we defended really well today, which got us off to a good start. Offensively, I thought the guys were focused, took care of the ball and we played together. Guys shared the ball, made big shots, went inside and played inside-out. Just a good team effort." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett

(On regrouping following an 0-2 Western New York weekend to win 5 of last 6) "Nobody likes the feeling of being a loser. So, in the locker room, everybody came together. We had common goals and the most common goal was to win. So, I think we just pulled it together and we're going to win games now." – Rider senior guard Stevie Jordan

- Rider leads the all-time series with Niagara, 27-23. The Broncs had won three-straight meetings with the Purple Eagles prior to a 70-68 setback in Western New York on Jan. 17. Rider has not lost to Niagara at home since 2014-15.
- Rider led from wire-to-wire for the third time this season (Nov. 8 at Delaware State, Jan. 26 at Manhattan).
- With Sunday's results around the MAAC, Rider jumps into a first place tie with Saint Peter's at 8-5. Manhattan, Monmouth and Siena sit a game back in the win column at 7-5, while Quinnipiac is sixth at 6-6. Fairfield, Iona, Marist and Niagara are also in a four-way logjam for seventh at 5-7, ahead of Canisius at 4-8.
- Rider is now 8-1 at home this season, including a 6-1 mark in league contests.
- Winning at home has been the norm in the MAAC this season, with the top eight teams in the league entering the day with a 37-9 (.804 winning percentage) mark at home in conference play. However, Rider was the only home team to win in MAAC play Sunday.
- The Broncs return to action Friday, when they travel to Siena for a MAAC regular-season contest for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Opening tip of the nationally-televised contest on ESPNU from the Times Union Center is scheduled for 9 p.m.
