Second-Half Comeback Bid Falls Short For Men's Basketball at Siena

Scott posts game-high 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists

ALBANY, NY Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]) scored a team-high 21 points, but the Rider University men's basketball team's second-half comeback bid came up short in a 73-64 setback Friday night at Siena. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 14-10 (8-6 MAAC), while the Saints improve to 12-10 (8-5 MAAC).

Siena scored first and never trailed. The Saints gradually built an 11-point before scoring the final 13 points of the period to take a 39-17 lead at the half. Siena outshot the Broncs, 59.3 percent (16-27) to 29.6 percent (8-27) in the first 20 minutes, while 10 turnovers also plagued the Broncs.

Rider used a 13-0 run to close to within 11 just over five minutes into the second half and further whittled the deficit to eight on a Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) three-point play at the 11:45 mark. But Siena rebuilt a 16-point lead and the Broncs could draw no closer than the eight-point deficit.

Quotes & Notes
"Anytime you get down by that far in the league, it's hard to get back. Give our guys credit. But we need to show up that way at the start of the game, which was frustrating to me."

"I'm pleased with the way they composed themselves and gathered themselves at halftime. Nobody dropped their heads. They all realized that each and every one of us had a part in us being down this far and figured out, 'one possession at a time.' And I thought our guys competed. We scored 47 points in the second half. If we play like that in the first half, we'd be better off." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett
