Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Soars Past Quinnipiac, 79-63

Vaughn leads Rider with 20 points, career-high nine assists

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) led the Rider University men's basketball team with 20 points, a career-high nine assists and seven rebounds as the Broncs led wire-to-wire in a 79-63 win over Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. With the win, the Broncs improve to 15-10 (9-6 MAAC), while the Bobcats dip to 11-13 (6-8 MAAC).

Rider outscored Quinnipiac, 9-1, to open the game and added another 13-0 run to build an early 26-9 lead. Vaughn made his first four shots of the game for 10 points in the span. The lead swelled to 31-13 on a Christian Ings (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) fast-break dunk at the 6:54 mark and Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) also got ahead of the pack to make it a 21-point lead, 34-14 at the 6:11 mark. The Bobcats countered with an 11-0 run to end the half, cutting the Broncs' lead to single digits, 36-27.

Willy Nuñez, Jr. (Orlando, FL/Oak Ridge [Florida International]) knocked down a three to open the second-half scoring and the Broncs maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Rider's lead swelled to as many as 22 points on an Ings three-pointer at the 12:25 mark.

Quotes & Notes
"Good defensive effort, start to finish. I know you guys want to talk to me about a dunk, but I don't care about a dunk. I care about getting stops, which I thought we did a really good job of. We held Rigoni to three points. Kelly had 17, but we did a good job. That was our focus – to make sure for 40 minutes we defended and we paid all of our attention and energy on that end of the court, not worrying about offense." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett

- Rider leads the all-time series with Quinnipiac, 13-4, including a 7-0 mark at Alumni Gym.
- Rider led from wire-to-wire for the fourth time this season. In each of the Broncs last three games, the winning team has led throughout (win vs. Niagara, loss at Siena, win vs. Quinnipiac).
- The Broncs are 9-1 overall at Alumni Gym this season, including a 7-1 mark in league play.
- With Sunday's results around the MAAC, Rider sits in third in the league standings. Saint Peter's leads the pack at 10-5, a game ahead of Siena (9-5) in the win column. Monmouth (8-6) is a game back of Rider in the loss column. Manhattan, Iona and Niagara are tied for fifth at 7-7.
- Home teams were 5-0 on the day in MAAC play. The top 10 teams in the league all have .500 or better records at home in league play for a 48-17 (.738) combined record. Adding in the only sub-.500 team at home in league play (Canisius at 3-4), the league is a combined 51-21 (.708) at home against conference foes.
- Conversely, just one team in the league has as good as a .500 record on the road in league play (Iona, 3-3).
