LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Field Hockey Head Coach
Lori Hussong has announced that seniors
Kaitlyn Flemming (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) and
Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) and junior
Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) will serve as team captains this year.
"All three were selected by their peers because of their outstanding leadership abilities, their impeccable character, excellent communication and amazing talent and skills," said Hussong. "All three have earned all-conference honors and will be called upon to lead by their play on the field as well as with their studies. They are positive in nature, come every day with a passion to improve and pour their hearts and souls into our program! We couldn't be more happy and prouder of the leadership they have shown so far as they echo and support the philosophy and values that we try to instill in all of our players during their time with us at Rider."
Flemming is a two-time Second Team All-Conference selection for the Broncs. She's contributed 13 goals in her three years at Rider, including five each in her freshman and junior seasons. She's added two defensive saves in each of the past two years. Flemming scored the game-tying goal in the 2019 NEC Championship Game against Fairfield. She also added game-winning goals against Hofstra and Sacred Heart.
After earning Second Team All-MAAC in her first year at Rider, van Ommeren jumped to First Team All-NEC last year. She scored six goals to go along with six assists for 18 points, a year after contributing five goals and a league-high 11 assists for 21 points. She was named to the 2019 NEC All-Tournament Team, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Broncs' 3-0 win over LIU in the semifinals.
Divorra earned Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 after leading the league with 15 goals and 37 points. Four of her goals were game winners. With Divorra's success came team success, as the Broncs were 12-0 in games in which she scored a goal. She recorded her first-career hat trick in a 5-1 win over Colgate on Sept. 15, 2019. Her sophomore success came after an injury-abbreviated freshman year of 2018, when she scored five goals and added six assists in eight games prior to a season-ending injury.
