Men's Basketball Holds Off Marist, 74-64

Jordan shines as Broncs earn fifth-straight win

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) led the Rider University men's basketball team with 23 points, six steals, five assists and four rebounds as the Broncs held off Marist, 74-64, in the MAAC opener Monday night at Alumni Gym. With the win, the Broncs' fifth-straight, Rider improves to 7-2 (1-0 MAAC), while the Red Foxes slip to 1-6 (0-1 MAAC).

Rider built a double-digit cushion in the first half on the strength of a 19-3 run. Jordan paced the Broncs with 10 points and six steals in the period, including five thefts in a span of just two minutes and 38 seconds during the run. The Broncs led by as many as 14 points in the opening 20 minutes and took a 38-26 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Red Foxes wouldn't go away, closing to within three, 64-61, with a 12-2 run capped by a Tyler Sagl lay-up at the 2:43 mark. But Jordan drove for a lay-up on the next Rider possession and the Broncs kept it a two-possession game the rest of the way with solid free-throw shooting and a pair of fast-break buckets in the final 22 seconds.

- The Broncs are 13-10 all-time in MAAC openers and 8-7 when opening MAAC play at home. Included in the mark is a 5-3 overall record in MAAC openers under Head Coach Kevin Baggett.
