Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Run Pushes Temple Past Men's Basketball, 78-66

Vaughn posts third double-double

PHILADELPHIA Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) posted his third double-double of the year, but a 21-point second half run for Temple was too much for the Rider University men's basketball team to overcome in a 78-66 loss Saturday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. The loss snaps the Broncs' (7-3) five-game winning streak, while the Owls improve to 8-3.

After Temple scored the game's first four points, Rider gradually built a six-point lead, 25-19, thanks in large part to hot shooting from Willy Nunez, Jr. (Orlando, FL/Oak Ridge [Florida International]). A pair of Christian Ings (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) triples in the final 97 seconds of the half gave Rider its largest lead of the period, a 41-33 halftime lead.

Rider's lead extended to as many as 14 points on a Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) three-point play at the 15:31 mark of the second half. But Temple would score the next 21 points to take the lead for good.

Quotes & Notes
"Give our guys a lot of credit. But give Temple more credit. I think (Temple Head Coach Aaron McKie) is doing an unbelievable job with their program. I know we had an opportunity early in the first half. Second half, we came out a little sluggish – missed some lay-ups, missed some open shots that we made in the first half. They started driving our zone, breaking it down. We had some breakdowns defensively. They found the open guys and made some shots that they didn't make in the first half." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett

- Rider and Temple were playing for the first time since 1995-96. The Owls have won seven straight and own a 14-1 lead in the all-time series.
- The game was a homecoming of sorts for the Broncs, as eight of 12 players on Rider's roster and five members of the coaching staff are from Philadelphia or the suburbs of the city.
- Rider returns to action on New Year's Eve, when it travels to Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. (ET)/6 p.m. (CT) tip at the Kohl Center.

Broncs by the Numbers
- Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]) led Rider with 17 points.
- Nuñez, Jr. scored all 13 of his points in the first half. He also added a team-high two steals.
- Vaughn's double-double consisted of 11 points and 10 rebounds. It's his third of the year and the seventh of his career.
- Jordan contributed nine points and a team-high five assists and two steals.
- Ings scored eight points and added a season-high six rebounds, doubling his previous season high on the boards.
- Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) grabbed 10 rebounds, marking the fifth time this season that he's achieved double-digit caroms. The 10 boards give him 638 for his career, passing Greg Cisson (633) and matching Alberto Baptiste (638) for 18th all-time at Rider.
- Rider took a 46-38 edge in rebounds, including a 20-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The Broncs have now outrebounded their opponent in nine of 10 games this season, with the lone occasion of being outrebounded coming by one (29-28) in a win over Marist.
- Temple outshot the Broncs, 51.7 percent (30-58) to 32.9 percent (24-73) from the floor, including 56.7 percent (17-30) shooting in the second half and 58.3 percent (7-12) from long range in the final 20 minutes.
