Men's Basketball Defeats Slippery Rock, 90-59, in Exhibition

Scott posts double-double in Broncs' final tune-up for 2019-20 season

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]) led the Broncs with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Rider University men's basketball team defeated Slippery Rock, 90-59, in an exhibition contest Saturday evening at Alumni Gymnasium. The game was a final tune-up for the Broncs, who open the regular season Tuesday night at Coppin State.

After a back-and-forth first four minutes of the first half that saw The Rock take its only lead of the game, 10-9, Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) scored a lay-up off a Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) assist at the 15:52 mark of the first half to spark a 17-0 run and give the Broncs the lead for good.

The Rider lead swelled to 30 points on three different occasions in the final eight minutes of the second half before Allen Powell's (Philadelphia, PA/La Salle College H.S.) free throw with 42 seconds remaining gave Rider the final 31-point margin of victory.

Quotes & Notes
"Exhibition game was much better than last year. I thought Slippery Rock, give them credit – I think they're going to be good. They've got some scorers, they play hard, they run some good stuff. So give those guys credit. I thought our guys showed up ready to go. Better second half than the first half. Shared the ball. It's just the start, it's an exhibition. But we're headed in the right direction." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett
