WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Sunday's contest between Rider and Saint Francis is the home opener for the Broncs and will be broadcast live on ESPN3. It is the team's first home field hockey ESPN3 broadcast and the school's fourth ESPN production.
- Last time out, Rider sophomore goalkeeper
Lena Vandam turned aside all four shots she faced as the Broncs blanked Towson, 2-0, on Wednesday, September 12. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Rider.
- In the victory over the Tigers, sophomore
Marion Waterkeyn scored her career-high third goal of the year and freshman
Kat Conroy potted her first collegiate tally. The game-winner was Waterkeyn's first of the season and the second of her career.
- Both of Rider's victories this fall have come via shutout. In their two wins, the Broncs are outscoring the opposition, 7-0.
- In goal,
Lena Vandam is 2-3 this year with a 3.81 goals-against average, .571 save percentage, 20 saves and a pair of shutouts. Her clean sheet against Towson was the seventh of her career. She has stopped four or more shots in a game three times this fall.
- Offensively, junior
Tess Coorens is having a breakout season. She leads the team with in several categories. She has registered nine points thanks to four goals and an assist. She has scored a goal in four of the team's five contests this year.
- Waterkeyn has already set new career-high in goals (3) and points (7).
- Freshman
Julia Divorra has made an immediate impact for Rider. She has registered six points thanks to two goals and two assists.
- Defensively,
Alison Amen has registered the team's lone defensive save in 2018.
- Rider has seen four different first-year players (Conroy, Divorra,
Tess van Ommeren and
Carly Brosious) score goals already this season.
- As a team, Rider is averaging 2.60 goals per game and over eight penalty corners per tilt.
- Sunday's game is the first of four home matches for Rider. The team was 3-3 at Ben Cohen Field in 2017. The Broncs are 9-0 in their last nine home openers, including an impressive eight consecutive shutouts. Rider has outscored the opposition, 35-2, in their last nine home openers.
- Rider leads the all-time series with Saint Francis, 17-2. The Broncs have won two straight against the Red Flash.
