LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Lysander Payano Almonte (New Brunswick, NJ/Colegio Quusquey/Rockland C.C.) took three games from his opponent at No. 1 singles, but that was the closest the Rider University men's tennis team would come to a victory in falling to league power Marist, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-8 (0-3 MAAC), while the Red Foxes improve to 4-3 (2-0 MAAC).

Playing with just five players, the Broncs were up against it for the third-straight match. Marist took the two doubles flights that were contested by 6-1 scores, before winning the five singles matches in straight sets. Payano Almonte competed hard in his No. 1 singles loss to Javier Restrepo, but fell, 6-0, 6-3. Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) also took a pair of games in falling to Gianlucca Massa, 6-2, 6-0. Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) and Javier Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) both lost by 6-0, 6-1, scores at Nos. 2 and 3, while Brian Villarreal (Roselle Park, NJ/Roselle Park) was blanked, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.

The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they play host to La Salle at 3 p.m.
