LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) competed well at No. 4 singles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell in its spring opener at Villanova, 7-0, on Friday. With the loss, the Broncs move to 0-6 on the season, while Villanova is now 7-11.
"Weather took us indoors today," said Rider Head Coach Doug Potkay. "We were a bit rusted, considering it was our first match of the year. The courts were extremely fast. Griffin played extremely well, adjusted quickly and attacked his opponents."
Villanova took the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 1, a 6-2 victory at No. 2 and the third point by default with Rider lining up with just five players. Clark was then highly-competitive at No. 4 singles, pushing his opponent, Alastair Hurry, before falling, 7-5, 6-2.
Lysander Payano Almonte also earned pair of games against Stefan Suarez at No. 1, but fell, 6-1, 6-1. The remainder of the matches contested were won by 6-0, 6-0, scores.
The Broncs return to action tomorrow, when they play host to Coppin State at 2 p.m.
