LOUDONVILLE, NY –
Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) earned a three-set victory at No. 3 singles and
Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) and
Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) won their No. 3 doubles match, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Siena, 6-1, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs close out the Fall season at 0-5 (0-2 MAAC), while the Saints improve to 3-0 (1-0 MAAC).
Clark and Gildea defeated Diego Lebron and Peter Galante, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles, but the Saints secured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Delgado and
Jeremy Van Herwarde (Sussex, NJ/Pope John XXIII) nearly pulled out the victory for the Broncs, but fell to Sagar Bains and Alessandro Saglia, 6-4, at No. 2.
Delgado battled to a 6-2, 2-6, 12-10, victory over Cameron Kirkwood at No. 3 singles, but that was the only singles victory the Broncs could muster.
Javier Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) pushed Guillermo Lopez Torres at No. 2, but fell, 6-4, 6-4. Clark also showed well at No. 6, but fell to Alexandros Giannakitisidis, 6-3, 6-3.
"The men's team played extremely well today," said Rider Head Coach Doug Potkay. "Diego caught fire with his forehand and attacked his opponent's backhand. Javier played very aggressive and couldn't convert the ad points."
