Rider's Koch Honored by the MAAC

EDISON—For the second week in a row, the Rider University field hockey team had a freshman honored as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week with Daane Koch earning the recognition for all games August 29-September 4 it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

A midfielder/forward from Berkel, in the Netherlands, Koch helped Rider (2-1) to an undefeated week as the Broncs won over Georgetown University 6-0 on Ben Cohen Field, September 2.

A Business Administration major, Koch had five shots, three on goal and recorded a goal and an assist, helping lead Rider to the win over the Hoyas on Friday night.

“Daane is coming along beautifully,” said head coach Lori Hussong.  “She has transitioned nicely to our field and our game.  She is a fierce competitor who plays intense every moment she is in the game.  She is skilled and determined and she makes it easy for her teammates to succeed because of her unselfish play.  We are really proud of her efforts against Georgetown as she played more like a veteran than a rookie and we look forward to watching her continue to flourish as the season continues forward.”

Playing 47 minutes, Koch assisted on the game-winner just 2:19 into the contest and she scored her first collegiate goal with just under 12 minutes remaining as the Broncs built a 5-0 lead.

Koch has started all three games for Rider this season and she has a goal and three assists in her last two games, both 6-0 Rider victories.

At Towson University on August 28, Koch had two assists, providing the helpers on the second and third goals of the game.

Bronc freshman and fellow Netherlands native Tess Coorens was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week for all games the opening week of the season.

Rider travels to Rhode Island for a pair of non-conference games, playing Brown University on September 10 before facing Providence College on September 11.

Rider returns home to Ben Cohen Field on September 13 against Villanova University at 4:30pm.
