Men's College Tennis
Fordham University 5, Rider University 2
BRONX, N.Y.—The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match to Fordham University on Wednesday afternoon at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
Rider opened the match winning the doubles point. Sophomore Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) and junior Matthew Begley (Pennington/Hopewell Valley Central) teamed up for a 6-1 win at second doubles and freshman Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville/Hamilton North (Nottingham)) and sophomore Jeremy Van Herwarde (Sussex/Pope John XXIII) scored a 6-3 victory at third doubles.
“I'm proud of the way the doubles teams played,” said head coach Doug Potkay. “They were aggressive and attacked the net and had good communication with each other.”
Ciaccio won the only singles match for Rider, with a 6-0, 1-6, 7-6 victory at fifth singles, recording his team-leading eighth win of season.
Fordham also defeated Rider by a 5-2 score in the fall.
The Rams have won six straight matches.
The Rider women return to action on Thursday, traveling to Lafayette College and the Rider men host Lafayette on Friday at 3pm.
