WASHINGTON D.C.—The Rider University men and George Washington University women were victorious in the Broncs' first meet of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The five-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Bronc men's team, who have now won 11 straight dual meets, were led by four underclassmen. Freshman Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) took first in the 100 backstroke (50.28) and 100 butterfly (49.93) while sophomore Joseph Warker (Reading, PA/Wilson) claimed the one-meter (317.48) and three-meter (265.28) dive events. Sophomore Lucas Musselman (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) was first in the 200 individual medley (1:55.86) and freshman Cole May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) captured nine points for the team with his first place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:56.52).

For the Rider women, junior Julianna Runk (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) was the team's leading scorer with 14 points, earned by winning the 200 IM (2:17.89), was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.44) and added a fifth place finish in the 200 breast (2:35.63).

Senior Ariana Palmer (Burlington/Burlington Township) garnered a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle (25.42) while freshman Meg Tomayko (Murfreesboro, TN/Siegel) continued the underclassmen's success by taking first in the one-meter dive (233.70) and was second on the three-meter board (225.83). Redshirt freshman Natalie Carter (Yucaipa, CA/Yucaipa), freshman Olivia Iswalt (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic), senior Jacquelynn Parker (Hillsborough/Hillsborough), and junior Baileigh Vanderhoof (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) combined for a win in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:48.12.

The relay success continued with second-place finishes by the men in the 400 freestyle relay (3:07.62) by senior Sam Cramer (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual), sophomore Vincent Gibbons (North Brunswick/North Brunswick), senior Matthan-Matthew Martier (Severn, MD/Old Mill) and senior William Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS North) and 200 medley relay (1:33.54) by Carey, senior Zach Mabin (Hamilton/Steinert), Martir, and junior Zack Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS North).  Zack Molloy also picked up a win in the 200 freestyle (1:40.79) and Mabin was second in the 100 breast (1:00.29) and 200 breast (2:11.50).

The women also secured second in the 200 medley relay (1:50.65) with Palmer, Parker, Runk, and sophomore Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) swimming that event.

Also for the men, Cramer collected two second-place finishes in the 500 freestyle (4:48.98) and 1000 freestyle (9:47.97), Gibbons picked up second in the 100 freestyle (47.57) and 200 freestyle (1:43.02), senior Harun Filipovic (Princeton/Princeton) took second on the one-meter dive (132.68), sophomore Porter Barnes (Columbus/Northern Burlington Regional) was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.07) and sophomore Griffin Hutton (Hamilton/Hamilton HS West) had two third-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (1:56.66) and 1000 freestyle (10:02.88).

The women saw results in the form of third-place finishes from junior Hannah Bayer (Forest Hill, MD/Bel Air) in the 200 butterfly (2:20.55), freshman Leanna DeMarco (Medford/Shawnee) in the 200 IM, junior Tara Maniace (Neptune/Neptune) in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.59) and 200 breaststroke (2:33.90), sophomore Amy Rheel (Mercerville/Notre Dame) in the 200 freestyle (2:00.83), and freshman Casey Wrabley in the 1000 freestyle (11:21.69).

This was the first time that Rider and George Washington have met in a swimming dual meet.

The Rider men have not lost a dual meet since November 8, 2014 when the Broncs were defeated by both Delaware and La Salle.

The Broncs return to action again on Saturday, October 15 when they travel to Fairfield for their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meet of the season.
