Rider at Binghamton's Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational – Day One
APALACHIN, NY—The Rider University golf team is competing at the two-day Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Binghamton University.
The sixth annual, 16-team, 36-hole event is being contested at the The Links at Hiawatha Landing, a par 72 course which runs over 7,200 yards.
Rider is in 16th place after the opening day of competition shooting an opening round of 305.
For the Broncs, senior Parker Mann and freshman Jake Sollon each shot one over par 73 and are tied for 37th place out of 89 golfers.
“Jake and Parker both played solid rounds,” said head coach Jason Barry. “A few shots here and there, the rounds would have been lower.”
Senior Sam DiGaetano is in 69th place after a round of 77 and sophomore Eder Moreno is tied for 87th place after an opening round of score of 82.
Senior Aaron Simone had shot an opening round of 76 but was disqualified after signing for an incorrect score.
Drexel is in first place of the team competition (277), followed by Binghamton (279) and Towson (279).
Drexel's Adam Mistretta shot a seven under par 65 and leads the field by two shots.
Last year at this event, Rider was seventh of 16 teams with Simone placing fifth out of 85 golfers.
The final 18 holes are Monday morning.
