St. Thomas Aquinas College 5, Rider University 2
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon.
“We lost to a tough, experienced team,” said head coach Doug Potkay. “We came close to winning that all important doubles point but missed a few key volleys.”
For Rider, sophomore Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) continued his strong play with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 victory at second singles, his second win of the season and freshman Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville/Hamilton North (Nottingham)) was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at sixth singles, for his second victory in a row.
“Diego played a tough three-set match,” said Potkay. “He took control of the middle of the court with well-placed shots. Ryan cruised to an easy victory, frustrating his opponent with change of pace shots.”
Ciaccio and junior Adam Levi (Princeton Junction/Pennington School) teamed up for an 8-6 win at third doubles.
“Ryan and Adam won a hard fought doubles match,” Potkay said. “This was their first time playing together.”
The Rider men travel to Fairfield University for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Tuesday at 2pm.
