Rider at Colonial Relays-Day One

WILLIAMSBURG, VA—The Rider University track & field teams are competing at the 50th edition of the Colonial Relays this week, hosted by the College of William & Mary.

On Thursday, the only event was the women's hammer.

For Rider, freshman Stephanie Lombardo (Buffalo, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had a toss of 36.57 meters, a new personal record. She placed 20th of 31.

“Steph threw well today,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer.  “The hammer is a new event for her and she did a real nice job learning the event.”

Lombardo was recently named both the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Performer of the Week for winning her two main events, the shot put and the weight throw.

“Last week when she won the other events she fouled on all three throws in the hammer,” Hamer said.  “She bounced back to hit two good throws today.”

Competition continues at the Colonial Relays 8:30 Friday morning with the men' and women's 5,000m runs. “Today was a good start to the weekend,” Hamer said.
