Rider at Lafayette 7-Way
EASTON, PA—The Broncs took part in the Lafayette 7-Way with Lehigh, West Chester, Colgate, East Stroudsburg, Moravian and the host Leopards Sunday. The Rider men placed fourth and the Rider women were sixth.
“Things went decent today,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. “Our throwers really had a great day.”
For the men throwers, senior George Solujich (East Windsor/Notre Dame) won the shot put in an IC4A qualifying distance of 15.95m and senior Andrew Pozo (Forked River, N.J./Toms River HS South) placed second in both the discus with an IC4A qualifying distance of 49.39m and the hammer (51.05).
For the Rider women freshman Stephanie Lombardo (Buffalo, N.Y./Cheektowaga) won the shot put (13.22m) and won the discus (43.32m). “They really showed up and outdoor track has a lot to do with the elements,” Hamer said. “You can't let the elements bother you and they went out and competed and were very enthusiastic and energetic. We had a couple of big wins and some big IC4A/ECAC qualifiers. I am really excited about that. Steph is a big-time freshman for us. She showed that today with a huge PR.”
Also for the women sophomore Juliann Brand (Egg Harbor, NJ) won the 400 hurdles (1:06.56). Junior Olivia Rosenberger (North Wales, PA) won the triple jump (11.20m).
Also for the Rider men sophomore Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park, NK/Franklin) won the 110 hurdles in an IC4A qualifying time of 14.85 and won the 400 hurdles in 55.96, a personal record. “Devon really stepped up big today,” Hamer said. “That was great.”
Sophomore Erik Adamcik (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) won the pole vault (4.55m) and junior Darien Edwards (South Orange/St. Benedict's) won the 400m in 50,00.
Sophomore Brad Kaufmann (East Meadow, NY) had a PR in the 1500 in 4:06.28 and sophomore Scott Wood (Florence, N.J./ Holy Cross) also set a personal record in the 1500 (4:09.86).
