Rider Hosts Princeton Friday on Senior Night
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider University wrestling team will host Princeton University Friday at 6pm in Alumni Gymnasium.
It is the last home match of the season and Rider will honor its six graduating seniors; Donald McNeil (Plainville, Mass./Wyoming Seminary), Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway), Mike Shupin (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), Jeff McElwee (Cedar Run, NJ/Southern Regional), Andrew Marr (Clarksburg, NJ/Wall) and Clint Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) prior to the match.
The match will also be a Pink Out, as the Zeta Tau Alpha Zeta Lambda chapter will be on hand raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness and Education.
Rider (12-7) is coming off an 18-16 Eastern Wrestling League win at Lock Haven. The Broncs have won four of their last five dual meets.
Rider is led by freshman 157 Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic), junior 133 Rob Deutsch (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional) and freshman 149 B.J. Clagon (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South).
Walsh, the reigning EWL Wrestler of the Week, is 25-7 overall and a perfect 5-0 in EWL dual meets. Deutsch, a two-time NCAA qualifier, is 21-7 overall and 15-4 in dual meets. Clagon is 21-8 overall, 14-5 in dual meets.
Princeton (9-6) won four dual meets in a row before losing 24-11 to Rutgers.
The Tigers are led by 184 Brett Harner, 197 Abram Ayala and 165 Jonathan Schleifer. Ayala is ranked 13th in the nation and has a 25-4 record. Harner also has 25 wins this season.
Rider defeated Princeton 21-15 last year, the fifth straight season Rider has defeated the Tigers.
Following the Princeton match Rider travels to Penn State Sunday for a 2pm match. Last year Rider lost 34-8 to the three-time defending National Champions.
