Rider at John Thomas Terrier Classic – Day Two
BOSTON, Mass.—The Rider University men's indoor track and field teams competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University on Saturday with the Bronc women finishing their competition in the distance medley relay in record setting fashion.
“Today was a really great day,” said head coach Bob Hamer. “We had some outstanding performances.”
In the women's DMR, senior Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech), junior Stephanie Welte (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's Academy), senior Ashley Edwards (Westfield) and freshman Victoria Brewer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) finished runner-up in a Rider record and ECAC qualifying time of 11:53.65, the third Rider record of the meet on the women's side.
“The women kicked things off well,” Hamer said.
For the Rider men, sophomore Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park/Franklin) was third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.25), qualifying for IC4As, sophomore Erik Adamcik (Hampton/North Hunterdon) was third in the pole vault, tying his own Rider record with an IC4A qualifying height of 16'00.75” and sophomore Wil Asamoah (Edison) also qualified for IC4As with his fourth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (8.25).
“Erik's pole vault was a great effort,” Hamer said. “Setting a Rider record two weeks in a row is tough to do.”
Sophomore Johnathan Jackson (Roselle/Magnet) was 10th in the 800 meter in an IC4A qualifying time of 1:52.14,
“The hurdlers did well and Johnathan ran a great 800 race,” Hamer added.
Junior Darien Edwards (South Orange/St. Benedict's) was 20th in the 500 meter (1:05.08) and sophomore Lamont Higgins (New Brunswick/St. Joseph HS (Metuchen)) was 25th in the 400 meter in an IC4A qualifying time of 49.17.
“We went through a stretch today where every person who competed seemed to set a PR or qualify for IC4As,” Hamer said. “I was very pleased with the overall effort. We worked to set the schedule so this meet kind of becomes that bench mark of what we still have to do to peek at the right time for the conference championships.”
The 4x4 relay of sophomore Christopher Reubel (Moorestown), Jackson, Edwards and Higgins qualified for IC4As with a time of 3:16.68, placing 11th.
Rider competes against TCNJ on Friday, February 6 in a meet at Lawrenceville Prep.
