LAWRENCEVILLE—Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams defeated St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match.
For the Bronc women, in their final match of the fall season, freshman Vanessa Canda (Jersey City/McNair Academic HS) won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles and freshman Caitlin Gardner (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles.

“It's hard to see the development based on wins and losses but it is nice for the women to end the season with a victory,” said head coach Doug Potkay.
Scrudato and sophomore Aleesha Rouse (Windham, Conn./Windham) teamed up for a 6-1 win at second doubles, clinching the doubles point for Rider.
For the Rider men, sophomore Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles, sophomore Jeremy Van Herwarde (Sussex/Pope John XXIII) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at third singles, freshman Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) won 6-2, 6-2 at fourth singles and freshman Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville/Hamilton North (Nottingham)) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at fifth singles.
“The men came out with a lot of confidence,” Potkay said. “The team has taken great strides over the past year. I'm proud of the way both teams played today.”
In doubles play, sophomore Chris Popso (Florence) and Delgado teamed up for a 6-2 win at first doubles and junior Adam Levi (Princeton Junction/Pennington School) teamed with Van Herwarde for a 7-5 victory at second doubles.
Weather permitting, the Rider men complete their fall season at Sacred Heart on Sunday. “The final match for the men will be a measuring stick as to how far we have come in the development of the team as we head into the spring season,” Potkay added.
