Rider at Princeton's Tiger Open
Adamcik Pole Vault Record
PRINCETON—Both the Rider University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Princeton Open Saturday.
“The performances that were good were really, really good,” said head coach Bob Hamer.
For the Rider men, sophomore Erik Adamcik (Hampton/North Hunterdon) won the pole vault and qualified for the IC4As in a Rider record height of 16'0.75”, topping Anthony DeFranco (15'9”) in 2014.
“The record in the pole vault was fantastic,” Hamer said. “Erik had a great meet today and really stepped up and competed to his potential.”
Senior Andrew Pozo (Forked River/Toms River HS South) was third in the weight throw with an IC4A distance of 57'11.75”, which is a personal best and senior David Prater (Columbus/Northern Burlington Regional) was third in the triple jump (45'2.25”).
For the Rider women, freshman Lexie Fraction (Sewell/Washington Twp.) was second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.89) and freshman Cleopatra Morrison (Long Branch) was fifth in the 60 meter dash (7.82).
“In the sprints and hurdles, Lexie did well,” Hamer said. “She is one performer that we can count on each week.”
Also qualifying for IC4As in the pole vault was senior Anthony DeFranco (Berkeley Heights/Governor Livingston) with a height of 15'9”, tying for third place and sophomore Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park/Franklin) was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.29).
“We had five qualifiers for the IC4As,” Hamer said. “The field events had some significant improvements which I thought was a great thing.”
In the men's high jump, both sophomore Kyle Bryant (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill HS East) and freshman Christin Patrick (East Orange/Seton Hall Prep.) qualified for the IC4As with a height of 6'8.25”.
“The high jumpers did well and also Pozo in the weight throw,” Hamer added. “We need to excel in the field events for the team to do well at MAACs.”
Sophomore Lamont Higgins (New Brunswick/St. Joseph HS (Metuchen)) was fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.71), sophomore Christopher Reubel (Moorestown) was fifth in the 200 meter dash (22.73) and senior Derek Lake (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) placed fifth in the 1000 meter (2:33.76).
Rider competes at the Terrier Invitational in Boston on January 30-31.
“Overall the team is making progress,” Hamer said. “Once you get back and done with the holidays, there isn't much time on the calendar before the conference championships.”
