Rider Adds 21
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University men's cross country / track and field teams have announced the addition of 21 newcomers for the 2014-15 season.
Tyree Adams (Hamilton, N.J.), Anthony Ardino (Bloomfield, N.J.), Juan Baxter (Monmouth Junction, N.J.), Danniel Belay (Gaithersburg, Md.), Myles Clark (Hyde Park, N.Y.), Joe Clarke (Stockton, N.J.), Thomas Edwards (Howell, N.J.), Steven Franco (Roselle, N.J.), David Gaynor (Paterson, N.J.), Daniel Gregor (Allentown, N.J.), Andrew Horberg (Somerset, N.J.), Anfernee Joseph (Somerset, N.J.), Nick Kontos (Long Valley, N.J.), Anthony Mills (Sewell, N.J.), Justin Naselli (Chester, N.J.), David Paduani (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), Christin Patrick (East Orange, N.J.), Mike Pinnola (Manalapan, N.J.), Shabazz Shuler (Long Branch, N.J.) and Christian Williams (Penns Grove, N.J.) all join the Broncs as members of the Class of 2018 with Dameon Haynes (Hamilton, N.J.) coming in as a junior transfer from Duquesne University.
"I am very excited about the men's incoming class," said head coach Bob Hamer. "We covered all of the event areas and added a lot of talent and depth. Those are the ingredients that are necessary for success in track and field. We are hopeful that each of these student-athletes will make an impact on the success of the team."
Adams, a sprinter and jumper from Hamilton West High School, has personal bests of 23.19 in the 200 meter, 6'4” in the high jump, 21'8” in the long jump and 45'4.5” in the triple jump and he had wins in the high jump at the 2014 Mercer County Relays, the triple jump (Carl Lewis Invitational) and in the long jump at the NJSIAA Sectionals, Mercer County Championships and Mercer County Relays.
Ardino, from Bloomsfield High School, is a cross country/distance runner who ran a 1:57.70 pr in the 800m this year. He won the 800m at the Super Essex Country Conference Championships this spring.
Baxter, a sprinter and hurdler from South Brunswick High School, has personal bests of 7.61 in the 55 hurdles, 14.53 in the 110 hurdles and 56.84 in the 400 hurdles and won the 55 hurdles and 110 hurdles at the NJSIAA Sectional and the Greater Middlesex Conference Championship.
Belay, a cross country/distance runner from Gaithersburg High School, has personal bests of 4:20.54 in the 1600 meter and 9:29.13 in the 3200 meter. His best 5000 meter cross country time is 15:54.50 and he was the Maryland 4A State Cross Country runner-up. Belay won both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter at the 2014 MPSSAA 4A West Region Championship.
Clark, a sprinter and hurdler from FDR High School, has personal bests of 15.66 in the 110 hurdles and 55.99 in the 400 hurdles. Clark won the 400 hurdles at the 2014 MHAL Championships and was second at the 2014 Section 9 state qualifier while placing runner-up at the 2014 Section 9 Class Championships.
Clarke, a thrower and jumper from Delaware Valley High School, has personal bests of 6'0” in the high jump and 168'10” in the javelin.
Edwards, a distance/cross country runner from Brick Township High School, comes in with personal bests of 16:21 for cross country and 4:36 for the 3200m and 9:49.256 for the 3200m.
Franco, a sprinter from Union Catholic High School, has personal bests of 6.60 in the 55 meter, 10.98 in the 100 meter and 22.65 in the 200 meter. A national champion in the indoor 4x200 relay and the outdoor 1000 meter Swedish relay, Franco was second in the 100 meter and third in the 200 meter at the Union County Championships and third in the 100 meter at the NJSIAA Non-Public 'A' Sectionals.
Gaynor, a thrower from Passaic Valley Vo Tech., has personal bests of 146'9” in the discus and 52'3.5” in the shot put. Gaynor won the shot put in 2014 at six events including the Big North League Championships (Liberty / Independence) and the Doc Boverini Passaic County Relays where he also won the discus.
Gregor, a middle distance runner from Allentown High School, comes in with a personal best of 1:59.93 in the 800 meter and he was fourth at the NJSIAA Group II Central Sectionals.
Haynes, a junior sprinter and transfer from Duquesne University, starred at Nottingham High School, has run personal bests of 50.07 for 400m and 23.55 for 200m.
Horberg, a sprinter from St. Joseph's Metuchen, has personal bests of 22.91 in the 200 meter and 49.76 in the 400 meter. Horberg was second in the 400 meter at the 2014 Lion Invitational and was also runner-up at the 2014 Greater Middlesex Conference Championships and was a 2014 NJSIAA Meet of Champions qualifier in the 4x400.
Joseph, a middle distance runner from Franklin High School was part of the Franklin squad that broke the Somerset County 4x800 record this year. He also ran 1:54.95 and 50.21 for the 800m and 400m respectively. He was third in the 800m at the Somerset County Championships.
Kontos, a cross country/distance runner from West Morris Central High School, has personal bests of 4:38.19 in the 1600 meter, 10:07 in the 3200 meter and his best cross country, 5000 meter time is 16:30.
Mills, a cross country/distance runner from Washington Township High School, has personal best times of 4:32.70 in the 1600 meter, 10:26.23 in the 3200 meter and his top cross country time (5000 meter) is 16:11.
Naselli, a cross country/distance runner from Mendham High School, has personal bests of 4:20.37 in the 1600 meter, 9:26 in the 3200 meter and his best cross country time on the 5000 meter course is 15:46. Naselli won both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter at the 2013 NJSIAA Sectionals for North II while also winning the 3200 meter at the NJAC Championships for Large Schools.
Paduani, a cross country/distance runner from Egg Harbor High School, has personal bests of 4:25.79 in the 1600 meter and 9:54.33 in the 3200 meter.
Patrick, a sprinter and hurdler from Seton Hall Prep., has personal best times of 7.63 in the 55 hurdles, 14.43 in the 110 hurdles, 56.98 in the 400 hurdles and 6'6” in the high jump. Patrick was fourth in the high jump and eighth in the 110 hurdles at the 2014 NJSIAA Meet of Champions. Patrick won 21 separate events in 2014 including 11 in the high jump, four in the 110 hurdles and three in the 55 hurdles.
Pinnola, a cross country/distance runner from Colts Neck High School, has personal bests of 2:01.26 in the 800 meter, 4:31.39 in the 1600 meter, 9:49.70 in the 3200 meter and is top cross country time on the 5000 meter course is 16:12.27.
Shuler, a jumper from Long Branch High School, comes to Rider with personal bests of 21'9.5” in the long jump, 44'9.5” in the triple jump, 160'4” in the javelin and a personal best time of 11.20 in the 100 meter. Shuler won both the long jump and triple jump at the NJSIAA Sectionals for Groups II and III and was a Monmouth County Champion in the long jump.
Williams, a sprinter from Penns Grove High School, has personal bests of 10.84 in the 100 meter and 22.44 in the 200 meter. Williams won both the 100 meter and 200 meter at the 2013 and 2014 Salem County Championships.
The men's cross country team returns 18 letterwinners from a squad that placed third at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships and the men's track and field teams return 37 letterwinners from a squad that finished third at the 2014 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
