Rider at Princeton Invitational – Day One
PRINCETON—The Rider University golf team is competing at the two-day, 54-hole Princeton Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
The competition is being played at the par 71, 6,390 yard Springdale Country Club.
After the opening 36 holes on day one, Rider is in 14th place out of 15 teams with a team score of 598 after rounds of 300 and 298 on Saturday.
“We played much better than what the scores indicate today,” said head coach Jason Barry. “A few of the guys didn't putt well and made a couple of big numbers. We left a lot of strokes out there and we could have gone lower in each round.”
For the Broncs, senior James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) is tied for 20th place out of 78 golfers after rounds of 71-73 (144).
“James was consistent all day,” Barry said. “He hit a lot of fairways and greens and struck the ball very well.”
Freshman Aaron Simone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) is tied for 45th place (149) after opening play with rounds of 74 and 75 on Saturday.
Sophomore Tom Yarson (Montgomery) is tied for 53rd with a 36-hole total of 151 after shooting rounds of 75-76, junior Luke Liddell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) is 69th (155) after scoring 81-74 in his two rounds and sophomore Joe Hughes (Tabernacle/Seneca) is tied for 70th after an 80 and 76, scoring a total of 156.
Competition continues Sunday.
“We are excited for Sunday,” Barry added. “Everyone has a low round in their bag but we need to putt well to eliminate the big numbers.”
