College Indoor Track and Field
at New Balance Collegiate Meet-Day 1

The Rider University men's and women's track and field teams are competing at the New Balance Collegiate Meet at the 168th Street Armory in New York this weekend.

While most of the events will be run on Saturday, the meet kicked off on Friday with a few events.

For the Bronc men, the men's distance medley relay (DMR) team of junior Nasser Zayer (Staten Island, N.Y./St.Peter's), sophomore Jalen Thomas (Baltimore, Md./Reservoir), senior Matt Sampson (Manasquan) and sophomore Sam Knipper (Randolph) finished fifth and ran an IC4A qualifying time of 10:17.20

The women's DMR team of graduate student Megan Elgin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), junior Ashley Edwards (Westfield), freshman Juliann Brand (Egg Harbor Twp.) and junior Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) placed eighth in ECAC qualifying time of 12:04.68.

“I'm pleased that we qualified but we should be more competitive with the relays that we put out there tonight. At times we just do not race as confidently as our training has dictated,” Rider coach Bob Hamer said.

Also for the Rider men, senior Corey O'Neill (Old Bridge) ran a 'PR' in the 3k (8:49.66) and junior Dylan Hallahan also ran a 'PR' in the 3k with a time of 8:50.51.

Competition will continue Saturday morning.

“Each race is a learning experience and hopefully we'll take the lessons from this and really run the big race that we're capable of running,” Hamer said.
