Rider at Princeton New Year's Invitational
PRINCETON—The 2014-15 indoor track & field season began Sunday, as Rider competed in Princeton's New Year's Invitational, held at Jadwin Gym.
“We had a lot of freshmen who stepped up today,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer, “and showed that they are the right kind of kids we need in the program.”
For the Rider men, sophomore Johnathan Jackson (Roselle, N.J./Magnet) won the 1000m (2:32.20),
Freshman Tyree Adams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) took second in triple jump (13.87) and third in long jump (7.05). “I was really impressed with Tyree's performance,” Hamer said. “He went out there and competed.”
Adams qualified for the IC44A in the long jump and jumped very well in the triple jump.
Sophomore Wil Asamoah (Edison, N.J./Edison) took second in the 60m hurdles (8.21). In the hurdles Asamoah and sophomore Devon Jefferson (trials) qualified for the IC4A. “The men hurdlers did a great job today,” Hamer said. “We had big expectations of them after the impressive season they had last year and they did a great job today.”
For the Rider women, freshman Lexie Fraction (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) won the 60m hurdles (8.83), “We always knew Lexie was good but I think she really stepped up and improved a lot from high school and showed she is going to be a stand-out performer for us,” Hamer said.
Freshman Cleopatra Morrison (Long Branch,N.J./Long Branch) took second in the 60m dash (7.69) and freshman Stephanie Lombardo (Buffalo, N.Y./Cheektowaga) took third in Shot Put (13.09).
Also for the Rider men, sophomore Scott Wood (Florence, N.J./ Holy Cross) took second in the 1000m (2:33.73), Freshman Christin Patrick (East Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep.) took third in the high jump (1.98m), Senior Andrew Pozo (Forked River, N.J./Toms River HS South) took third in weight throw (16.61m) and senior George Solujich (East Windsor, N.J./Norte Dame) took third in shot put with a Rider record toss of 16.85. That was also an IC4A qualifying distance.
“George is a guy who has worked really hard and got to a whole new level last year and has picked up right where he left off and I'm really excited for him," Hamer said.
Also for the Rider women, junior Olivia Rosenberger (North Wales,Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) took fourth in the triple jump (11.21m), Junior Miranda Roberts (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) took sixth in the pole vault (3.10m).
The men's 4x400 relay of sophomore Christopher Reubel (Moorestown, N.J/Moorestown), junior Darien Edwards (South Orange,N.J./St.Benedict's), freshman Andrew Horberg (Somerset,N.J./St. Joseph HS (Metuchen)) and sophomore Lamont Higgins (New Brunswick/St. Joseph HS (Metuchen)) took third with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:21.30.
“Overall we had a lot of great performances across the board and I'm excited for what the future holds for this season,” Hamer said.
Rider runs again on January 10 in a dual meet in West Point, New York with Army.
