Ransome, Ritter and Elgin set Rider records

BOSTON, Mass.--The Rider University women's track and field team competed at Boston University's Terrier Invitational Friday.

The all-day meet took place at the BU Track and Tennis Center.

For the Rider women, freshman Dashana Ransome (Irvington) set a Rider record finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles, running an ECAC qualifying time of 8.72 in the finals.

"We had some great performances today," said head coach Bob Hamer.  "Three women set Rider records and six qualified for ECACs.  We had some great accomplishments.  Dashana was really good in the hurdles and in the 200.  She has been ready for a step up in performance."

Also for the Rider women, freshman La'tazah Coleman (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, qualifying for ECAC's clocking a time of 24.78. Sophomore Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del/Sussex Tech) finished 11th in the 1-mile run, setting a new Rider record of 4:57.73 and qualifying for ECAC's.

"Ritter had a huge breakthrough in the mile," Hamer said.  "It is the best race she has run at Rider.  She was aggressive throughout and finished strong.  Coleman ran a real nice 200 and a great leg on the 4x400.  She is making nice progress each week."

Senior Megan Elgin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) placed 17th  in the women's 3,000-meter run in Rider record and ECAC qualifying time of 9:53.92.

"Elgin ran a great 3k," Hamer added.  "She reset her own record by almost five seconds.  She was very patient and then aggressive over the final 1,000 meters.  She needed this performance to help her confidence moving forward.  It was a great performance by her."

The Rider men will run in the Terrier Invitational Saturday.
