College Cross Country
Giovagnoli Honored by MAAC
Rider University's Heather Giovagnoli was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference cross country runner of the week for all competition the first week of the 2011 season.
Giovagnoli, a senior from Royersford, PA (Spring Ford High School), finished first overall in Rider's cross country meet with Saint Joseph's University and The College of New Jersey.
Giovagnoli covered the 5,000 meter course at Rosedale Park in Hopewell, NJ in 18:58 to win the race, her first collegiate victory.
"Heather ran a great race," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "She really stuck to the plan and finished strong. It was a big win for her and the confidence boost will pay big dividends down the road for her and for us. She's a really good cross country runner and is finally healthy."
Giovagnoli was an All-MAAC cross country runner as a freshman before a series of injuries hindered her performances the last two years.
The Broncs travel to The Bronx, NY September 10 to compete in the Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortlandt State Park.
