Buttermark leads Rider after Day 1
at Princeton Invitational
Rider 12th of 12 teams
PRINCETON - The Rider University golf team is on the course competing in the two day Princeton Invitational this weekend. After day one freshman James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) leads the team with a combined score in the first two rounds with a 155 (77/78) and is in 48th place out of 68 golfers.
"James played very well overall," said head coach Bob Whartenby. "He struggled with his putting a little but that improve and get better with more practice."
Also for Rider, senior Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) shot a combined score of 157 (79/78) and is tied for 57th. Right behind him on the leader board is junior Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) who finished the day with a combined score of 158 (78/80). Wolak is tied for 59th.
Senior Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) comes into the clubhouse with a two round total of 163 and is 66th and senior Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) finished day one with a combined score of 171 for 68th place.
"We played much better today than in our first two tournaments," Whartenby said. "It is taking a little time to get the rust off. Hopefully we can build from this and improve tomorrow."
Rider had team totals of 317 in round one and 316 in round two and is in 12th place out of 12 teams. Yale leads the field with a 565.
Play contines Sunday with the final 18 holes at 9am.
