Rider's Egusquiza Named to NFHCA Senior All-Star Game
LAWRENCEVILLE-Virginia Egusquiza (Getxo, Spain) of the Rider University field hockey team was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior All-Star game it was announced Tuesday afternoon.
One of 38 players selected, Egusquiza will participate in the game on Saturday, November 19 at 3pm at the University of Louisville. This year's Senior Game participants will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four (4), 25 minute sessions.
"We are so proud that Virginia was selected to represent Rider University as well as the Northeast Conference in this year's senior All Star game," said head coach Lori Hussong. "She is very deserving of this honor and it will be a great way for her to cap off what has been an unbelievable career with our program."
A two-time NEC Player of the Year after being named the NEC Rookie of the Year in 2008, Egusquiza leads the conference in scoring and assists and is second in the NEC in goals.
Egusquiza is currently fifth nationally in points per game and recently became Rider's all-time leading scorer with 44 goals and 61 assists (149 points).
"It is great for everyone nationally to be able to witness Virginia's skills, something that we've been privileged to see for the last four years," Hussong added. "It is great for Virginia to be selected and also great for Rider University. We are really proud of her. It will be nice for people to see not only how good of a player she is but how good a person she is."
Egusquiza had six game-winning goals for Rider (17-1, 7-0 NEC) as the Broncs won the NEC Regular Season Title for the third season in a row.
Egusquiza is the second player from Rider to earn this recognition with Christina Ang named to the 2004 senior all-star squad. Also that season, head coach Lori Hussong and assistant coach Dan Hussong were named as North squad coaches for the all-star game at Wake Forest.
Winners of 13 straight games, Rider hosts the four-team NEC playoffs as the top seed November 4-5 at Ben Cohen Field on the Lawrenceville campus. The Broncs face fourth seed Saint Francis (Pa.) at 1:30pm on Friday with the championship game Saturday at noon.
