ITHACA, N.Y.--The Rider University golf team competed this weekend at the 2010 Cornell Golf Invitational, hosted at the par-72 6,893 yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.

For the Broncs, senior Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass/Hopkinton) had a final round 79, shooting 224 for the tournament after rounds of 70 and 75 on Saturday to finish tied for 19th out of 81 golfers. Accorsini was tied for second after the opening 18 holes, a round that featured seven birdies.

"Brian was in a good position to still win the tournament after the two rounds on Saturday," said head coach Bob Whartenby. "He got off to kind of a nervous start and he made some mistakes and then started to press."

Binghamton's Jake Katz won with a 211 (70-72-69), helping the Bearcats to a repeat of the team title.

As a team Rider shot 937 after a 318 on Sunday to tie for 11th out of 14 teams. On Saturday, Rider scored 310 and 309 on the opening 36 holes and were in 13th place after round one.

"We're having trouble closing out our rounds," said Whartenby. "We are posting some big numbers on some holes and that is something we have to work on. It is mostly mental. You just have to play your way through it and know the situations, when to go for a particular shot or when to just get it on the green, make the putt and get out of dodge."

Also for Rider, senior Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) tied for 49th after a final round of 80. Wolgast had a two-day total of 235 after rounds of 77 and 78 on Saturday. Last year, Wolgast shot a Rider-record 65 on this course enroute to a sixth place finish in the tournament.

Freshman James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y/Monsignor Farrell) tied for 58th (239) after an 80 on Sunday. Buttermark shot rounds of 83 and 76 on Saturday.

Junior Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) placed 70th after a final round of 79. Wolak shot 164 in his two rounds on Saturday (80/84).

Senior Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) finished with a 248 after a final round 81 to finish 74th. Wycoff had rounds of 87 and 80 on Saturday.

Last season, Rider was eighth of 15 teams at Cornell.

The Broncs complete the fall season at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate, hosted by Seton Hall October 16-17 at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club.
