Rider at Colonial Relays-Day One

WILLIAMSBURG, VA-The Broncs are competing at the 45^th Annual Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William & Mary Friday and Saturday. "I'm really glad we put this meet back on our schedule," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "It's a great meet with a great atmosphere. We have some opportunities down here and so far a few kids took advantage of them."

For the Rider men junior Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) placed sixth in the 1500m  with an IC4A qualifying time 3:48.15, just seconds off the Rider record. "Chris ran really well," Hamer said. "I was really excited for him. That's a record I think he is eventually going to get."

Freshman Jorge Merino (Old Bridge) placed 10^th in the shot put (14.29m), senior Brandon Wolf (Lititz, PA/Warwick) placed 10^th in the hammer (48.30m), junior John Clark (Pennsville) placed 11^th in the hammer (48.23m) and was 21^st in the shot put (13.10m). "The weight guys did okay," Hamer said.

Freshman David Hightower (Easton, Pa.) placed 11^th in the 110m high hurdles (15.05) and freshman James Burroughs (West Orange) placed 12^th in the 110m high hurdles (15.07).  "The hurdlers did a really nice job today," Hamer said.

 Freshman Perry Asare (Lindenwold) placed 15^th in the long jump (6.59m), freshman Sean McCullough (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./La Salle) placed 19^th in the 10,000m (32:40.18) and freshman Sean Donohue (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) was 20^th (32:40.88).

For the Rider women, freshman Ashley Hunter (Northampton, Pa.) placed 16^th in the 400m hurdles (1:05.04) and was 27^th in the 100m high hurdles (15.58).  "Ashley had a really nice day." Hamer said.

Freshman Erin Smith (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) placed 20^th in the javelin (30.05m), senior Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) placed 26^th in the 5,000m (18:59.34), junior Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) placed 27^th in the 1500m (4:44.28), sophomore Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) placed 30^th in the 1500m (4:46.53) and freshman Caitlin Vanek (Riegelsville, PA/Wilson) was 30^th in the long jump (5.06m). Freshman Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) placed 31^st in the preliminaries of the 100m dash (12.78) and placed 33^rd in the 200m (26.35).

Also for the Rider men, sophomore Adam Haun (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) placed 21^st in the long jump (6.48m), freshman Greg Wesh (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was 38^th in the 800m (1:55.07), freshman Daequan Kim (Bordentown) placed 29^th in the 200m (22.64) and was  35^th in the preliminaries of the 100m (11.36), freshman Jammar Lim (Ewing) placed 17^th in the 400m hurdles (55.32) and was 40^th in the preliminaries of the 100m dash (11.62) and senior Phillip Capaldi (Woxall, Pa./Souderton) placed 45^th in the 5,000m (16:20.60).

Also for the Rider women junior Johanna Clarke (Laurelton, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) placed 33^rd in the 800m (2:17.88), senior Dominique Carnevale (Oceanport/Shore Regional) placed 34^th  in the 5,000m (19:37.84), freshman Lauren Findley (Hallstead, Pa./Blue Ridge) 41^st in 400m (1:00.65) and senior Kelly Dissinger (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) placed 55^th in the 400m (1:03.35).

The Colonial Relays, with 78 colleges and 1500 athletes, continue Saturday. "This is a big meet and some people came here with the right attitude and with belief in themselves and they had big performances," Hamer said.
