Rider at 2010 Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, PA-Several Broncs are competing at the 116th Annual Penn Relays Carnival, held at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. "We had some good performances today and we're hoping for more of the same tomorrow," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer
Junior Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) ran an IC4A qualifying time of 14:26 in the 5000m. "We had higher expectations," Hamer said, "but you can't complain about an IC4A qualifying time."
Senior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) placed fifth in the hammer with a toss of 52.99m, beating her own best throw by more than four feet. "That was a four and a half foot improvement over her best mark," Hamer said. "She had an unbelievable throw in her last chance to get into the finals. She is really clicking right now."
The women's 4 x 100 relay team of junior Shaylah Counts (Newark/Malcolm Shabazz), freshman Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell), freshman Erin McMullin (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and freshman Ashley Hunter (Northampton, Pa.) finished in 48.47, setting a new Rider record.
The women's 4 x 400 relay team of McMullin, freshman Lauren Findley (Hallstead, Pa./Blue Ridge), freshman Jordyn Horning (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Hunter won its heat and finished in a time of 3:53.65. "We have not run that fast in a very long time," Hamer said.
On Friday the men's 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays will run.
