Rider Invitational

LAWRENCEVILLE-The Rider men placed first of seven teams and the Rider women were second of nine teams at the Rider Invitational Saturday. "I thought it went pretty well today," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "We were looking for a little bit more consistency in our performance, starting with our preparation in practice, and I think we did a really good job. Overall we had a lot of really good performances."

For the Rider women, freshman Ashley Hunter (Northampton, Pa.) won the 100m hurdles (15.33) and the 400m hurdles (1:05.43). "Ashley had a great day," Hamer said. "She also ran two nice relay legs for us," Hamer said. "That was good stuff."

Freshman Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) won the 100m dash (12.32) and placed third in the 200m (26.82), freshman Jillian Shutt (Lawrenceville, Pa./Williamson) won the 3,000m steeplechase (11:58.04).  "That was really nice to see Jillian win the steeplechase," Hamer said. "That was the first time she ever ran that event and she did a really nice job."

Junior Johanna Clarke (Laurelton, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) won the 800m (2:19.93) and junior Shaylah Counts (Newark/Malcolm Shabazz) won the 200m (26.53) and placed second in the 100m (12.43). "Shaylah ran a really nice 100," Hamer said.

For the Rider men freshman Jammar Lim (Ewing) won the long jump (22'5.75") and won the high jump (6'2.75") and placed second in the 400m hurdles (55.50). "Jammar was very good today," Hamer said.

Freshman David Hightower (Easton, Pa.) won the 110m hurdles (14.89) and the 400m hurdles (55.43) and freshman Daequan Kim (Bordentown) won the 100m dash (11.09) and won the 200m (22.71). "Daequan had another good day," Hamer said.

Junior John Clark (Pennsville) won the discus (162'), placed second in the hammer (157'6") and was fifth in the shot put (42'3.25"), senior Brandon Wolf (Lititz, PA/Warwick) won the hammer (159'4") and placed fourth in the shot put (42'6.75") and freshman Greg Wesh (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) won the 1500m (4:02.07). "Greg won an event and also ran a nice relay leg for us," Hamer said.

Also for the Rider women, senior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) placed second in the hammer (164'7"), fourth in the discus (120') and was fifth in the shot put (40'2.75").

"We had a lot of effort out there today," Hamer said, "and we got as good a result as we could have."

Rider competes at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational April 16-17. "We're excited about that meet," Hamer said. "We're looking for some ECAC/IC4A qualifying marks that day. Traditionally this race is a great field with really good athletes."

The Broncs return to the home track May 1-2 for the MAAC Championships. "It was great to have an opportunity to have a meet on our own facility," Hamer said. "We practice here every day but it is nice to have a chance to compete here before the conference championships."
