Rider Men Win, Women Lose

LAWRENCEVILLE-The Broncs and Lions competed at the Lawrenceville Prep School Sunday, with the Rider men winning and the TCNJ women winning. "It was a great day," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "We got exactly what we were looking for out of this meet."

For the Rider women, senior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) won the weight throw in an ECAC qualifying distance (16.33m) and won the shot put (12.95m)

For the Rider men junior Chris Gonzalez won the 1,000m in an IC4A qualifying time of  2:27.53,  junior John Clark (Pennsville) won the weight throw with an IC4A qualifying distance of 16.80 meters  and  won the shot put (15.46m), freshman David Hightower (Easton, Pa.) placed second in the hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 7.61 and junior Michael Soroko (Kinnelon) won the mile (4:18.62).

The men's 4 x 800 meter relay of freshman Greg Wesh (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), Gonzalez, John Hill (Voorhees/Eastern) and Soroko won in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:50.8.

Freshman Caitlin Vanek (Riegelsville, PA/Wilson) won the long jump (5.30m) and won the triple jump (10.98m), freshman Erin McMullin (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) won the 200m (26.06), junior Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) won the 1,000m (2:59.75) and sophomore Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) won the 3,000m (10:35.15).

Also for the Rider men freshman Jammar Lim (Ewing) won the high jump (1.93m), freshman Perry Asare (Lindenwold) won the triple jump (13.53m), freshman Daequan Kim (Bordentown) won the 200m (22.68) and  sophomore Mike Bartoli (Millstone/Allentown).

"There was a lot of enthusiasm today," Hamer said, "a lot of excitement, a lot of passion in the air. We got out of this what we were looking for. Making sure the kids got an opportunity to compete for something that means something. They really went after it in every event. I was pretty excited with the way we approached things."

The Broncs compete with Lafayette at the NYC Armory on February 12 and return to the Armory February 19 for the MAAC Championships.

"We just have to put it together again in a couple of week at the MAAC Championships," Hamer said.
