Rider at NYU Fast Track
NEW YORK, NY-Several Broncs competed at the NYU Fast Track meet at the 168th Street Armory Friday night.
For the Rider men freshman Greg Wesh (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) qualified for the IC4As with a 2:29.25 in the 1,000m, placing third. "Greg got hurt at the end of cross country so he didn't really run the first half of the indoor season,' said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "He's done a tremendous job getting back on the track."
For the Rider women, junior Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) placed fourth in the mile with a Rider record time of 5:01.98 and senior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) placed second in the shot put (13.33m).
"Chelsea works so hard every day, so it is great to see her get rewarded with a team record," Hamer said.
Also for the Rider men, freshman Jorge Merino (Old Bridge) placed second in the shot put (15.45m). "Merino was very talented n high school and we were ecstatic to get him here. As a freshman he has done tremendous things for us. He's going to be better outdoors than indoors."
Senior Brandon Wolf (Lititz, PA/Warwick) placed third in the wt. throw (15.94m), freshman David Hightower (Easton, Pa.) placed eighth in the 60m hurdles (8.38) and freshman James Burroughs (West Orange) placed 11th in the 500m (1:05.51).
Also for the Rider women, freshman Jillian Shutt (Lawrenceville, PA/Williamson) placed eighth in the mile (5:12.88), sophomore Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) was 13th in the 800m (2:19.47) and sophomore Kristen Perrine (Brick) was 17th in the 800m (20.21).
The ECAC/IC4As are in Boston next week.
