LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match to Philadelphia University Saturday afternoon.

"It's been the same story for us," said head coach Ed Torres.  "We have one experienced player in Rob Olsen and the rest are underclassmen.  We are getting better but it is a season long process of growing pains.  We are keeping the ball in play a little longer.  The process of improvement doesn't happen over night."

For Rider, senior Rob Olsen (Marlton/Cherokee) split the first two sets at number five singles before losing the third set super-tie breaker 10-7.

"Rob is playing good tennis and hanging in every match," Torres said.  "He is playing steady and attacking the short ball.  By attacking the net and using his 6-4 frame, he is a tough player to pass.  He is keeping the ball alive and playing the net more.  The more he attacks, the more successful he will be against some pretty good players."

The Rider men host Monmouth on October 12.
