LAWRENCEVILLE--The Broncs out-shot the Stags 17-6 but lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to Fairfield Sunday afternoon. "We played great," said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome. "I thought we out-played them. I thought we controlled the possession. We had a lot more of the ball than they did. We got a lot more shots than they did, and we end up losing the game."

Fairfield (7-6-2, 3-1-1 MAAC) scored the only goal it needed mid-way through the first half and scored the insurance goal with 20 minutes left in the second half.

Fairfield goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau made eight saves for her MAAC-high ninth shutout of the season and leads the MAAC in both saves and save percentage. "Their goalie is good," Hounsome said. "She made some nice saves so give some credit to her. She played well."

For Rider (6-7-2, 2-4 MAAC) senior goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made two saves.

"They only had six shots but they scored on two of them," Hounsome said. "That is disappointing. But I'm proud of the way we played."

Rider had eight shots on goal to Fairfield's four. "Fairfield is always a strong team," Hounsome said. "For us to be able to control the game the way we did is a good sign. When we possess the ball we're a strong team."

Both of Fairfield's goals were from 20 yards out, going in just below the crossbar. "Two shots from 20-plus yards out go in," Hounsome said, "that's a killer. That takes the wind out of your sails."

Rider freshman Jennifer Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony's) had five shots, three on goal.

Fairfield won two games in a row before losing to Loyola Friday.

Rider lost three games in a row before defeating Iona Friday.

Rider lost 3-0 at Fairfield last year.  Rider is now 3-13 against Fairfield, the last Bronc win coming in 2004.

The Broncs travel to Saint Peter's Friday. "We're still in it," Hounsome said of his post-season chances. "If we play the way we played today, without giving up the long goals, we should win."
