LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's soccer team fell to the visiting Temple Owls on Thursday night by a score of 2-1. With the loss, the Broncs fall to a record of 1-1-1 while the Owls improve to an overall record of 4-1-0, winning their fourth match in a row.
Temple opened the scoring early in the first half as the Owls found a way through the Broncs backline to beat
Ashley Moore at the near post in the fourth minute. Temple continued to hit Rider, logging two more attempts at goal until the Owls doubled their lead with a goal in the 14
th minute.
Isis Ovares logged the first Broncs shot on goal in the 31
st minute, connecting on a cross while heading it into the ground with the Owls goalkeeper coming to collect on the line. The owls continued to hit the Broncs defense for the rest of the half, with Moore being called on to make a save in the 42
nd minute to keep out a third goal.
Coming out of halftime, Temple continued their push, logging three shots on goal, all saved by Moore, before
Courtney Carter forced the Owls goalkeeper to make her second save of the night. Carter once again had a look at goal in the 78
th minute before the Broncs got on the board to spoil the clean sheet, as
Cali Friedel scored off the volley from a pass by
Elaine Joy. Both
Ava DeGeorge and Joy were credited with an assist.
Moore was called into action one more time in the game, making a save in the 84
th minute. The Broncs controlled possession for the rest of the half after that while failing to convert on any opportunities in front of goal to road out the loss. Temple's bench received a yellow card for dissent in the 88
th minute of the game.

"I thought we had good ball possession, controlled good elements of the game against a Temple team that has won four [games] on the bounce now…I'm proud of the goal we scored, first goal that we have scored in open play. It was great to see two freshmen combine for the goal, Elaine passing to Cali, and Cali did wonderfully with the goal, controlling it and on the volley, so it was really a tough, technical thing to do under pressure with no space and no time. And then we did not quite have another opportunity. We got the ball into that area of the field but maybe we took an extra touch or the cross was delayed or it got blocked…So happy with the second half, not happy with the first half, but we'll move on and we'll go into conference play 1-1-1, which is okay." – Head Coach

- The Broncs were outshot by the Owls 16-5 while also being outshot 8-4 in attempts on goal.
- In her third collegiate game, Friedel scored her first ever goal for the Broncs.
- The Broncs logged four shots on goal, with Ovares logging one and Carter logging two alongside Friedel's second half goal.
- In goal, Ashley Moore completed six saves in goal from Temples 16 attempts at net.
