Rider at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate
Broncs 14th out of 18 after Day One
Wolak / Accorsini tied for 29th after 18 holes
BEDMINSTER--The Rider University golf team is competing at the 36-hole Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate, hosted by Seton Hall at the par 72 Elbow Country Club in Bedminster.
After the first 18 holes on Saturday, Rider is 14th out of 18 teams after shooting a 318.
"It was tough out there today," said head coach Bob Whartenby. "The wind was blowing with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. It was one of the hardest days I've seen out there in college golf. It was really tough."
For the Broncs, junior Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) and senior Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) each shot a 77 on the 7,014 yard River Course and are tied for 29th out of 95 golfers.
"Chris and Brian both played great," Whartenby said. "Chris was struggling a little then went eagles and birdie on back to back par fives. Brian played well as usual and if he makes a few more putts, I think he could go really low on Sunday."
Senior Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) and senior Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) each shot an 82 are tied for 69th with freshman James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) scoring an 84. Buttermark is tied for 84th.
The final 18 holes are on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30am.
