Rider at Terrier Invitational
BOSTON, MASS-The Broncs are competing at the Terrier Invitational this weekend at Boston University. The women competed Friday and the men are competing Saturday. "We had some really good things happen tonight," said Rider head coach Bob Hamer. "The biggest thing was that the kids came here ready to compete and did a tremendous job."
For the Rider women, senior Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil) broke the Rider record in the 5,000m, placing 18th in 18:01.52 and junior Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) set a new Rider record in the mile, finishing 15th in 5:03.93. "Chelsea and Kelsey were the real highlights of the night," Hamer said. "Kelsey broke the record by a lot. They came here physically and mentally ready to compete. They took advantage of the situation they were in."
Also for the Broncs, freshman Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) placed eighth in the 55m dash (7.46), freshman Erin McMullin (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) placed 14th in the 200m (25.86), sophomore Laura Staples (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) was 12th in the 1,000m (3:07.30).
Junior Johanna Clarke (Laurelton, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) recorded a PR in the 800m (2:21.74), placing 29th. "Johanna ran a really nice race," Hamer said. "That broke her PR by almost three seconds."
The Rider 4 x 400m relay team of junior Shaylah Counts (Newark/Malcolm Shabazz), freshman Lauren Findley (Hallstead, Pa./Blue Ridge), McMullin and freshman Ashley Hunter (Northampton, Pa.) placed eighth (4:01.38). "They did a really nice job," Hamer said. "They came in with the attitude that they were going to make a difference today they performed very well."
The men compete Saturday.
