Rider at Princeton's Larry Ellis-Day One
PRINCETON?The Broncs are competing at the Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational this weekend, hosted by Princeton University. “We had a really nice night tonight,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer, “a really great night. We came here for the kind of results we got.”
On Friday junior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) placed fourth in the hammer with an ECAC qualifying distance of 165' and was 12th in the discus (114'8”) and sophomore Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) set a Rider record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:22.05, placing 25th.
“Alicia had qualified for the ECACs as a conference champion in the past, but never by the automatic standard qualifying distance,” Hamer said, “so that was great for her. She did an awesome job.”
For the men, sophomore John Clark (Pennsville) placed fifth in the discus (158'3”), sophomore Mike Soroko (Kinnelon) placed 14th in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:23.15. “That's about a 22 second PR over last week,” Hamer said.
Senior Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan) ran a 14:39 in the 5000m, “which is a 21 second PR for him,” Hamer said. “Matt ran a tremendous race,” Hamer said.
Sophomore Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) ran a 3:57.53 in the 1500m to place 52nd.
Also for the Rider women senior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven) placed 26th in the 5000m with a time of 18:10.70, just missing the Rider record of 18:10.29. “Kelly ran a tremendous race,” Hamer said. “That was a big PR for her.”
Junior Jennifer Alksmant (Forked River/Lacey Township) and was placed seventh in the discus (127') and 14th in the hammer (108'9”), junior Lauren Lester (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) ran a 4:49.85 in the 1500m, freshman Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, PA (Spring Ford) ran a 4:51.37 in the 1500m and junior Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil's Academy) placed 23rd in the in the 5000m (19:10.27).
The majority of the events take place Saturday.
