Rider at NYU Fast Track Invite
NEW YORK, NY?The track was fast and Rider was invited. The Rider University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the NYU Fast Track Invite on Friday, coming home with three Rider records and five IC4A/ECAC qualifying marks.
“The training is setup so that we have our best performances this time of year,” said head coach Bob Hamer. “We are performing at a very high level and the kids that have a chance to go after Rider records and IC4A/ECAC qualifying marks are really coming through when it counts the most.”
For the Rider women, junior Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) won the weight throw with a distance of 52'6.50”, qualifying for ECAC's, with freshman Kristen Perrine (Brick/Brick Township) setting a Rider record in the 1000 meter (2:57.78), finishing fifth. Senior Tabatha Haskins (Medford/Shawnee) set a Rider record in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 38'8.25”, placing fifth and was also 11th in the long jump (17'5.25”).
For the Rider men, sophomore John Clark (Pennsville) set a Rider record in the weight throw with an IC4A qualifying distance of 58'1”, finishing fifth and was seventh in the shot put (47'5.75”). Sophomore Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) qualified for IC4A's in the mile with a time of 4:14.58, placing sixth and sophomore Michael Soroko (Kinnelon) also qualified for IC4A's in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:57.78, finishing third.
Also for the Rider men, sophomore Brian Leggett (Old Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) was fifth in the pole vault (4.26m), senior Marcellus Manning (Richland/Buena) finished seventh in the 60 meter hurdles (8.41) with junior Brandon Wolf (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) placing 11th in the weight throw (50'8”).
Also for the Rider women, sophomore Chelsea Callen (Hazlet/Raritan) was seventh in the 1000 meter (2:58.88), junior Lauren Lester (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) was 16th in the 800 meter (2:20.74) and senior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) was 16th in the 3000 meter (10:38.96).
Senior Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) finished 18th in the 1000 meter (3:11.23), junior Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil's Academy) was 18th in the mile (5:24.08) with freshman Heather Giovagnoli (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) placing 29th in the 800 meter (2:24.69) and sophomore Johanna Clarke (Laurelton, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) finished 33rd in the 800 meter (2:28.47).
Senior Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan) was 34th in the 3000 meter (9:03.93), freshman Adam Haun (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) was 40th in the 400 meter (52.68), freshman David South (Sergeantsville/Hunterdon Central) was 44th in the 800 meter (2:02.89) with freshman Mike Bartoli (Millstone/Allentown) placing 49th in the 400 meter (54.75).
“I'm really excited and proud of the accomplishments of both the men's and women's teams,” Hamer added.
Rider competes at the IC4A/ECAC Championships March 7-8 in Boston, Mass.
